The candidate will work with a variety of MLML researchers, faculty, and operations staff to support and improve the data collection, compilation, and analysis capabilities of Moss Landing Marine Labs.

Minimum educational requirements include a Bachelor's degree in a technical field: e.g. Engineering, Science, or IT, as well as minimum 3 years’ experience in a related field.

Responsibilities include supporting the design, fabrication, deployment, and maintenance of a real-time network of biogeochemical sensors in the field, lab, shipboard, and aquarium/aquaculture facilities. The technician must also maintain sensor calibrations, including cleaning, deployment, and working with the manufacturers.

The MLML Visiting Scientist position was established in 1984 by a resolution of the MLML Governing Board to enhance the opportunity for professors from the seven MLML consortium campuses (SJSU, CSU East Bay, CSU SF, CSU Sac, CSU Stanislaus, CSU Fresno, CSU Monterey Bay) to conduct research and collaborate with the MLML faculty and students during an academic year, in-residence appointment. Employment is contingent upon proof of eligibility to work in the United States. Faculty from consortium campuses will be given preference in selection.

A Ph.D. is required. Applicants should be scientists in good standing and have research interests(to be pursued independently or in cooperation with specific faculty member) that are of overall interest to the MLML faculty and student body. In lieu of research, the applicant may propose teaching courses generally not offered at MLML but that would be of value to the MLML student body.

Applicants should have awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience. Applicants are encouraged to contact appropriate MLML faculty members to discuss possible participation at the Labs.

Responsibilities include ability to teach effectively and perform research in the applicant’s area of expertise. Candidate will be expected to coordinate the weekly seminar series with assistance from the faculty and students. Candidate must address the needs of a student population of great diversity – in age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language and academic preparation – through course materials, teaching strategies and advisement. Candidates should have proven record of peer-reviewed research publications.

The San Jose State University Research Foundation (SJSURF) seeks to fill a “Sponsored Programs Analyst, MLML (Pre and Post Award)" position in our Central Office. Depending on the demand for service, this position is scheduled to work 2 days per week at the SJSURF Central Office, located in downtown San Jose, California, 2 days per week on site at the MLML campus in Moss Landing, California, and 1 day per week and on campus at San Jose State University, located in downtown San Jose, California. Schedules are subject to change when attendance is required for mandatory meetings, and training sessions.
