Sediment sampling for chemistry using clean hands-dirty hands technique and taking sediment cores for benthic infauna samples

The WEMAP 2002 Intertidal Wetlands project required innovative ways to reach a site. Most sites involved using a boat to get to the shallowest point and then walking to the exposed intertidal site dragging the equipment. In some cases, we walked in mud up to our thighs or we had to skid along the surface on boogie boards.

This WEMAP 2002 Intertidal Wetlands site in Humboldt Bay required a far walk in the mud to the site. The erosion patterns in the sediment created large craters.

The tide fills in fast in Humboldt Bay and Marco had to walk in the water back to the boat. We had to deal with many sites in this manner.

These two white sturgeon and striped bass were caught in San Francisco Bay during the 2006 Regional Monitoring Program's (RMP) fish contaminant survey.
