Library Research Tool Quick Start Guide
We know you’re all busy people! These tips will help you use the MLML/MBARI Research Library and King Library more efficiently and save you time.
SJSU Proxy Bookmarklet
- Why? Makes switching between library subscriptions through the MLML/MBARI Library and the King Library easy!
- When to use? If you are not able to view the full text of an article on a publisher’s website, click the bookmarklet to check whether or not the King Library subscribes. (Disconnect from MLML or MBARI VPN before clicking.)
- What does it do? Re-directs a publisher webpage through SJSU’s proxy server. Enter your SJSU password to get access to resources subscribed to by the King Library.
- Get it: King Library proxy bookmarklet
- Tell me more: MLML/MBARI library resources are authenticated by IP address so if you are onsite you will have access to resources for which we subscribe through the publisher. The King Library uses a different method, called a proxy server, which redirects you to a different URL to log in as an SJSU King Library user.
Google Scholar Library Links
- Why? Helps identify whether the MLML/MBARI Research Library or the King Library subscribes to a resource and quickly routes you through the library catalog to link to the full text.
- When to use? When searching using Google Scholar, click the Find it @ library links to go directly to the catalog record in the subscribing library. Review the date options for the full text or print.
- What does it do? Pretty accurately identifiers which library subscribes to the journal title and takes you directly to the library catalog record.
- Get it: one-time setup: Library Links
- Tell me more: No need to open a new tab, navigate to each library’s website, open the catalog, and repeat your search, the Find it @ links take you right there.
