Evan Mattiasen

Evan graduated from Pepperdine University in 2012 with a B.S. in Biological Science.  As an undergraduate, Evan studied stream ecology with a focus on impacts of introduce predators on native amphibian populations of the Santa Monica Mountains. He spent two field seasons as a USGS Biological Science Technician tracking the annual variability of riparian stream habitats. Evan currently works at MLML marine operations center where he helps maintain our fleet of research vessels and assists in running research cruises.

Evan is a fourth-year student in the Ichthyology lab and will be defending his thesis this winter. His research focuses on investigating the behavioral and physiological effects of exposure to hypoxic conditions on juvenile stage rockfishes. Evan is an AAUS scientific diver and regularly dives in the coastal kelp forests of Monterey Bay to collect his study species and assist his fellow lab mates.
