For Alex's thesis, she is leveraging MBARI's 30-year underwater database to predict spatial relationships between organisms in the midwater environment. She can usually be found behind a computer playing with statistical models or processing ArcGIS data, and is passionate about using the most modern technology to answer ecological questions. Before coming to MLML she received a B.S. in Ecology and Evolution from UC Santa Cruz. She is co-advised by Dr. Corey Garza at CSUMB.
Outside of academic life Alex likes to perform aerial silks, spin fire, and play Magic: the Gathering.
