Just part of the bigger mess.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>When I saw that tidy couple, I made my way over with a discarded plastic bottle in hand, and thanked them for their efforts.\u00a0 They bagged my bottle and said they were just tired of seeing others trash their favorite spot \u2013 so they decided to do something about it.\u00a0 Simple.\u00a0\u00a0 I guess\u00a0 I could have asked for their names, but perhaps like all superheros they prefer to walk among us, unknown\u2026.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, the bigger term solution will have to do with completely revamping our one-use, disposal and throwaway lifestyle, and rethinking our whole relationship with trash, our obsession with plastic.\u00a0 But in the meantime, little efforts to keep the mess in check send a big message about how you feel about our beaches and oceans, about the wildlife they support.\u00a0 Even if picking up after others is not your idea of fun in a sun, keeping a particular eye out for these blacklisted items can make a big difference: fishing line, plastic bags, balloons and six-pack rings are all particularly dangerous hazards for animals like birds, seals, and sea turtles to tangle and choke on.\u00a0 So be a beach hero and bag that trash!<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_592\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-592\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-592\" title=\"img_8602\" src=\"https:\/\/mlml.sjsu.edu\/student-life\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/75\/2008\/09\/img_8602.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"Wilson, my castaway beach find.
