\u00a0The\u00a0Monterey\u00a0Bay Aquarium has, they needed divers to help rescue algae in one of their tanks. \u00a0Moss Landing Marine Labs MS 105 Marine Science Diving class had the opportunity to dive in the Monterey Bay Aquarium&#8217;s kelp forest habitat tank (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.montereybayaquarium.org\/efc\/kelp.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">their kelp tank site is here<\/a>). \u00a0This tank receives water from just offshore of the aquarium and gets all kinds of baby critters from the water that normally settle and grow just outside the aquarium. \u00a0Some of these baby drifters are the spores of an alga (singular of algae) named <em>Dictyopteris undulata. \u00a0<\/em>This alga has been bullying the other algae in the tank and outcompeting them for space. \u00a0The dive class was tasked with helping remove the algae and you can see from the photo above we were not happy with this little brown bully!<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5216\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5216\" style=\"width: 383px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/mlml.sjsu.edu\/student-life\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/75\/2011\/12\/img_3152.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-5216 \" title=\"Diver aids in collection\" src=\"https:\/\/mlml.sjsu.edu\/student-life\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/75\/2011\/12\/img_3152.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"383\" height=\"576\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mlml.sjsu.edu\/student-life\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/75\/2011\/12\/img_3152.jpg 426w, https:\/\/mlml.sjsu.edu\/student-life\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/75\/2011\/12\/img_3152-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 383px) 100vw, 383px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5216\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Student Will Fennie aids in collection of the bully.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Have you ever needed help from your friends when\u00a0confronted\u00a0with a brown algae bully?
