normal\u00a0occurrence\u00a0along our California coast. \u00a0Bivalves like mussels are collected as a food source for many people, but are difficult to remove. \u00a0Mussels attach to the rocks by byssal threads, tiny hair like proteins, which are strong and elastic. \u00a0These have been made into fabrics, similar to silk, with byssus in the\u00a0Mediterranean. \u00a0Mussel thread may be the
