Loury)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Congratulations to Megan Witnon, the latest Ichthyology Lab graduate from MLML!\u00a0 Megan defended her thesis this week titled &#8220;Age, growth, and demography of the roughtail skate, <em>Bathyraja\u00a0 trachura<\/em>, from the eastern Bering Sea.&#8221;\u00a0 And her defense wasn&#8217;t complete without another amazing cake creation from MLML food art extraordinaire Diane Haas.<\/p>\n<p>Though Diane has <a title=\"Have Your Skate and Eat it\u00a0Too\" href=\"https:\/\/mlml.sjsu.edu\/student-life\/2011\/01\/02\/have-your-skate-and-eat-it-too\/\">dabbled in dessert skates before<\/a>, this one really takes the cake!\u00a0 The butterfly shapes represent the vertebrae sections that researchers like Megan and Diane <a title=\"The importance of ageing \u2013 how is a skate like a fine wine?
