Kelp forests are found throughout the world --although the dominant species may differ-- but the research that comes out of each region often fails to link each system together. Or worse, findings from one part of the world will be applied broadly to all kelp forests, despite the huge differences in local conditions.<\/p>\n
<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-17686 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/mlml.sjsu.edu\/student-life\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/75\/2019\/02\/kelps.png\" alt=\"kelps\" width=\"915\" height=\"590\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mlml.sjsu.edu\/student-life\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/75\/2019\/02\/kelps.png 915w, https:\/\/mlml.sjsu.edu\/student-life\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/75\/2019\/02\/kelps-300x193.png 300w, https:\/\/mlml.sjsu.edu\/student-life\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/75\/2019\/02\/kelps-768x495.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 915px) 100vw, 915px\" \/>
This figure from one of our lecture slides shows the global distribution of kelps --a specific type of large, brown algae-- and highlights the different groups that are most common.
