(photo: Laura Dippold)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>National Pie Day is January 23rd (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ehow.com\/how_2020202_national-pie-day.html\">it&#8217;s true!<\/a> honest!), but here at Moss Landing we operate on a, shall we say, more flexible calendar. \u00a0 Pie lovers gathered from across the lab yesterday to observe this most solemn occasion with a lab-wide bake off, featuring pies ranging from the sweet of apples, blueberries and chocolate, to the savory of eggs, bacon and tamales. \u00a0\u00a0 Kudos to the judging committee for creating such creative prize categories to accomodate the potpourri\u00a0 of entries, including &#8220;Most likely to raise your cholestorol&#8221; and &#8220;Most likely to taste better than it looks.&#8221;\u00a0 Congrats to Zea Walton for her grand-prize winning lemon tart, that was also voted &#8220;Most Dreamy,&#8221; and to runner up Mike Gordon, whose blueberry pie was voted &#8220;Most likely to be made by a grandma.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1279\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1279\" style=\"width: 450px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1279\" title=\"pie-day\" src=\"https:\/\/mlml.sjsu.edu\/student-life\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/75\/2009\/01\/pie-day.jpg\" alt=\"Hats off to National Pie Day!\" width=\"450\" height=\"337\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mlml.sjsu.edu\/student-life\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/75\/2009\/01\/pie-day.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/mlml.sjsu.edu\/student-life\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/75\/2009\/01\/pie-day-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/mlml.sjsu.edu\/student-life\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/75\/2009\/01\/pie-day-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1279\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hats off to National Pie Day!
