The Fisheries and Conservation Biology Lab is led by Dr. Rick Starr<\/a> \u2013\u00a0a research faculty member of Moss Landing Marine Laboratories<\/a> (MLML). \u00a0Dr. Starr and FCB students study the biology and ecology of fished species. \u00a0We study aspects of the life history of fishery species\u00a0such as\u00a0age and growth, reproduction, feeding, habitat uses, and movement\u00a0ecology. \u00a0We are especially involved with collaborative fisheries research, monitoring marine protected areas, and using camera systems to survey continental shelf and slope fishes.<\/p>\n

Current FCB Lab projects include:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Conducting biological research on nearshore species to help promote the wise use, conservation, and management of valuable fishery resources<\/a><\/li>\n
  2. Using new collaborative approaches and stereo-video techniques to survey deeper water fishes<\/a><\/li>\n
  3. Working with scientists, fishermen and non-governmental organizations to design and evaluate marine protected areas (MPAs) in California<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
