No\u00eblle Yochum<\/h3>\n

No\u00eblle was a research technician working with the\u00a0California Collaborative Fisheries Research Program (CCFRP)<\/a>\u00a0from 2006-2009. Before that, she graduated from the\u00a0University of California, San Diego<\/a>\u00a0in 2003, where she majored in biology and minored in French literature. While completing her undergraduate degree, she participated in the School for Field Studies program in Baja California where she had her first exposure to the concepts of collaborative research and bycatch. In San Diego, she also worked and volunteered in several laboratories at the\u00a0Scripps Institution of Oceanography<\/a>. One of which provided the opportunity\u00a0to participate in a deep sea, carbon flux research cruise from Hawaii to California after graduation. Following this, No\u00eblle taught mathematics in Sacramento, CA and traveled abroad while applying for master\u2019s degree programs.<\/p>\n

In Baja California, No\u00eblle\u2019s passion for collaborative research and bycatch reduction, and love of being on the water became clear. Therefore, she sought opportunities to conduct a master\u2019s project where she could continue to work closely with fishermen on a project to promote fisheries sustainability. At the\u00a0Virginia Institute of Marine Science<\/a>\u00a0(College of William and Mary<\/a>), she was able to conduct such a study. There she modeled the\u00a0size-selectivity of the commercial Atlantic sea scallop (Placopecteri<\/em> magellanicus) dredge.<\/a>After completing her degree, No\u00eblle worked\u00a0with the\u00a0Long-Term Ecological Research Program<\/a>\u00a0in Antarctica, which also allowed her to travel in South America.<\/p>\n

Upon returning from traveling, No\u00eblle began her time\u00a0at\u00a0Moss Landing Marine Laboratories<\/a>, working on the newly forming CCFRP. No\u00eblle left the project to begin a PhD program at\u00a0Oregon State University<\/a>\u00a0in January 2010. No\u00eblle\u2019s doctoral research evaluated an approach for quantifying bycatch mortality using reflex impairment. This also allowed for the evaluation of discard mortality of both\u00a0Tanner crab (Chionoecetes<\/em>\u00a0bairdi<\/em>) in the Alaska bottom trawl fishery\u00a0and\u00a0Dungeness crab (Cancer<\/em>\u00a0magister<\/em>) in commercial and recreational Oregon fisheries<\/a>. No\u00eblle completed her doctoral program in May 2016.<\/p>\n

Noelle currently works for the\u00a0National Marine Fisheries Service\u00a0<\/a>at the Alaska Fisheries Science Center.<\/p>\n
