She earned her Bachelor\u2019s degree in Biology from the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/missouri.edu\/\">University of Missouri, Columbia<\/a>\u00a0in 1979, serving six years in the active Navy including leading a team that used California sea lions to recover equipment from the sea floor which reignited her interest in ocean sciences. Inspired to return to her science roots, Donna returned to school to earn a Master of Science (MS) in Marine Science from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sjsu.edu\/\">San Jose State University<\/a>\u00a0through\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mlml.sjsu.edu\/\">Moss Landing Marine Laboratories<\/a>\u00a0in 1996, later adding technology and policy through a Professional Science Masters\u2019 in Coastal and Watershed Science and Policy from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/csumb.edu\/\">California State University, Monterey Bay<\/a>\u00a0in 2010. Donna\u2019s masters research centered on ichthyology - age and growth verification of deep-sea rockfishes. Her other research interests include the biology and ecology of shelf and slope marine fishes and habitats, visual survey technologies and techniques, collaborative fisheries, and marine protected area performance.<\/p>\n<p>Donna worked in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/seagrant.mlml.calstate.edu\/\">Fisheries and Conservation Biology Lab<\/a>\u00a0from 2013-2017 to support collaborative fisheries projects dedicated to studying benthic habitat and fish assemblage and population responses to California Marine Protected Areas (MPA) and Rockfish Conservation Areas (RCA).\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Donna is a marine ecologist and former\u00a0US Navy\u00a0Officer and Navy diver.
